Doreen

Meet our client, Doreen

Doreen and her young family immigrated to the United States from Belize about 50 years ago. Shortly after, her husband left, leaving her alone to care for their two small children. She started working as a house cleaner but quickly realized that she wasn’t earning enough to make ends meet. In order to provide for herself and her children, she decided to put herself through school to become a nursing assistant.

Doreen worked at a Boston-area hospital as a CNA for about 35 years. Unfortunately, she sustained a shoulder injury that prevented her from being able to do her job. She found herself out of work but not able to qualify for federal assistance programs. With bills piling up, she turned to Interfaith for help with groceries.

“Interfaith has been very kind to me and I am so very grateful for this organization,” Doreen told us. “I am also thankful for people who donate money and time to help people like me. Never in my life did I think this would happen to me - I have always liked working. I hope one day I will be able to take care of myself on my own again without needing help.”
